Meet my current quilt obsession: Moths

by Shannon Brinkley
Aug 28, 2025

Every time I look at these quilts, I fall in love all over again… my Scrappy Appliqué Moths collection.

For this bundle, I chose three absolutely breathtaking species:
🦋 The Giant Silk Moth
🦋 The Spanish Moon Moth
🦋 The Sagebrush Sheep Moth

Each one has its own unique flair — some bold and colorful, others soft and delicate. I’ve been fascinated by moths for years… they’re such a beautiful mix of mystery and magic.

When I designed this collection, I played with different layouts, but ultimately landed on showcasing the full wing span. There’s something about the symmetry of the wings that just stops you in your tracks.

And here’s my favorite part — while these quilts look intricate, they come together surprisingly quickly with my Scrappy Appliqué method. (I stitched up two samples in just three days — one day prepping fabric, one day collaging, one day sewing. That’s it!)

This project also holds a special place in my heart because it’s the first time I created quilts using only fabric I hand-dyed myself. Seeing those colors come alive in the moth wings was such a thrill.

Inside the Moths bundle you’ll find:
✨ 3 moth species, each with 3 different sizes
✨ Both square and horizontal layout options
✨ Endless room to play with fabric, color, and negative space

Now, here’s the exciting part for you:
We may release this bundle to the public in the future at around $34, but right now you can get it for free when you join the Scrappy Appliqué Workshop.

That means for less than the cost of the patterns, you’ll get:
✔ The full Scrappy Appliqué Workshop (plus bonus masterclasses)
âś” Our two most popular animal patterns: Amaya (zebra) + Sasha (tiger)
âś” The brand-new Moths bundle

This special is only available until August 31.

I can’t wait to see the wings you create.

Happy stitching,
Shannon

The fabric too pretty to cut (Giuseppe solved it)
Hello, friend — September in Meander is something special, and I couldn't wait to tell you about it. You know that one fabric bundle you love so much you can't bring yourself to cut into it? You didn't buy it for a project. You bought it because it was beautiful — and now it lives on the shelf where you can visit it, because no project ever feels quite worthy of it. Right? Well. I want to tel...
A studio, not a sewing room
Close your eyes for a second and picture walking into the space where you sew. What does it make you feel? If the answer is "stressed," "cramped," or "a little scattered" — this week's post is for you. Because that feeling shapes what you make there, and whatever your space or budget, you can change it. On the blog this week: the difference between a sewing room and a studio (it's not square...
One pattern, a dozen completely different quilts
Here's a quiet little pattern I've noticed. A lot of us follow the pattern exactly — every fabric, every placement, right down to the cover photo. Partly because it's what we know. And partly because going off-script feels risky. What if I choose the wrong colors? What if I waste fabric? I want to let you in on something: a pattern is a starting point, not a rulebook. And this week on the blog,...
